Anti Social Media Video Goes Viral

on May 7, 2014 | Video | Comments (5)

This great video by Gark Turk was posted on YouTube about 1 week ago. Now with over 25 million views, it is worth taking note.

In the video Gary explains how many of us are absorbed by the ‘social media life’, and how we need to focus more-so on real world connections, in person.

The irony, his message has spread like wildfire on social media websites – but how else would it spread?

Watch. and take note:

Instead of walking down the street playing with your phone, look up at the world around you.

Gary Turk – Look Up

  • Very well done! Totally agree to what Gary is saying, … and the other side of this same coin is that social media allows us to connect with people worldwide that we would not have met if it wasn’t for social media. It allows us to quickly, easily and without any real cost stay in touch with family who live on the other side of the ocean. It opens new worlds we didn’t even knew existed. It allows us to create an organization on a worldwide scale without having to invest large sums of money. It allows stay at home dads (like myself) or moms to work for clients all over the world. Yes, I agree, we should continue to pay attention to our loved ones around us without staring at a screen, but at the same time don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. Btw, I don’t even have a smartphone 🙂

Sorry but Gary is espousing a fairly trite concept that’s based on logic and isn’t life affirming or changing; it’s purely emotive spin. The whole thing is egalitarian and treats its viewers like social is making them mindless morons. It’s nothing new’ same thing happens every generation when a new mass population technology is taken up (radio, TV, PC etc). Self indulgent rubbish passed off as enlightened thought (this blog sums is up nicely: http://tinyurl.com/qdquys6).

  • Like what Mr. Felix said, “social media allows us to connect with people worldwide that we would not have met if it wasn’t for social media”, yes, social media could change one person’s lifestyle literally but that doesn’t put social medias on the negative side of the table. The uses of social media expands from Social interactivity to commercial uses, thus, making it a useful tool not only in business but in personal social life, personally I believe that it really depends on the person who handles that kind of scenario.
