Facebook Introduces Trending Public Topics

Facebook have announced the release of a new product – Trending public topics that show up in your newsfeed, in many ways similar to Twitter.

Specifically the Trending Topics show up to the right of your newsfeed like the following screenshot:

Users can then click on the Trending Topic of choice and it will show you status updates from your friends and pages discussing this chosen subject, eg the recent Golden Globe awards:

This feature won’t be rolling out on mobile just yet, and is only being tested in select countries to start with – Australia not being one of them. Most probably the US, Canada, UK and some regions of Europe are the first to get this new functionality.

However I’m sure we can expect to see Facebook roll out this new feature in Australia soon as we are generally not far behind new product rollouts.
