Foursquare

Foursquare is a location based (also know as Geo-location) social networking service.

Users “check-in” at physical venues/locations generally using internet based mobile applications. Much of Foursquare’s success has come from their iPhone application.

Foursquare also has applications for the has Android, BlackBerry, and webOS.

Users are awarded points and badges when they reach certain achievements. They can also share their information into other social channels such as Facebook and Twitter.

Users can also earn the ‘mayor’ title of a venue, which means they are the most frequent user.

Foursquare makes use of Amazon’s huge cloud computing infrastructure in the USA.

As of April 2010 Forsquare has close to 1 million users globally and rapidly expanding.

Yahoo Inc has been in talks with Foursquare to purchase the business for as high as $125 Million.
