I also think it’s because you get an instant “reward” (albeit just a message from foursquare) and also a long term reward in badges. We all like collecting things! It’s also curiosity for me – I love to know where my friends are and what they’re doing
Deloittes Australia are doing an amazing job with social media, both for their employees and for customer engagement. They have a great approach of engagement and an ongoing commitment to social media. BTW, this is an unbiased opinion from someone who does some serious watching of “this space”!
