Blackout sends Politicians to Social Media

For all those following the federal election via social media and Twitter do make sure you check out www.election.ly before its all over.

As you may well know, the advertising blackout kicked in last night (thank goodness!) and now:

1. Tony Abbott has tweeted for first time in over a month (twice in 17hrs)

2. Julia Gillard was averaging 2-3 tweets/day in Aug, but has posted 7 in the last 24hrs

The politicians are turning to Twitter to keep in-touch with the masses, however one must ask – why did they not implement a more consistent social media policy before all this.

I doubt very much it is actually Julia or Tony behind the keyword anyway – it would most probably be one of their ‘media people’.

Too little too late?

What do you think?
