Readers please note: On the 1st of every month we post a new social media report, the below report is not our latest figures. Please see here the most up to date report.

Today we post our social media report outlining the most popular social network sites in Australia over February 2017.

As Australians enjoy the summer months, we see an increase in social media posts as users share updates about holidays, outings, and time with family and friends.

As people have time off at this time of year, we also see an increase in users signing up to the main sites and Facebook has again seen another increase in active users with their Australian audience growing further. Considering people under the age of 13 are not permitted to sign up, and generally people 80+ don’t access the service it goes to show most people between 14-60 have a Facebook account.

Facebook has also seen continued growth globally. The service now has 1.86 billion monthly active users, of which 1.23 billion are daily active users. There are also 600 million monthly active users on Instagram.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics Population Clock there are approximately 24.3 million Australians.

Facebook’s recent data shows there are now 15 million active Australians on Facebook.

Therefore approximately 60% of the total Australian population is an active Facebook user. This is a huge number.

Penetration of the Australian Population

Approximately:

  • 7 in 10 Australians use Facebook
  • 1 in 2 Australians use YouTube
  • 1 in 5 Australians use Instagram
  • 1 in 6 Australians use Snapchat

Key Points to Note:

  • 70% of the total Australian population is an active monthly user on Facebook.
