Social Bookmarking and news website, Digg has just sold for $500,000 USD plus equity to San Francisco company Betaworks.

Digg was once a very popular social media website and had a massive US and international audience.

Over the years the company received $45 million USD in venture capitalist funding.

Apparently the site still gets over 16 million monthly active users and according to Alexa.com has a rank of 191, which means it is the 191th most popular website in the world according to Alexa.

Also according to Alexa, Digg is the 108th most popular website in Australia.

It will be interesting to see how the site goes under new ownership.
