Facebook Launches Verified Accounts For Brands, Celebrities & Public Figures

Facebook's own fanpage is now officially verified.

Facebook’s own fanpage is now officially verified.

Similar to verified accounts on Twitter, verified Facebook on Facebook will now display a small blue tick icon to let users know they are viewing the official fanpage of that person or brand.

This new verified accounts feature on Facebook will only be available to Brands, Celebrities, Government Officials, Public Figures and some members of the Media. This means the feature is available on some standard users accounts (ie not fanpages). You can see Mark Zuckerberg already has his profile verified.

Many celebrities now have verified fan pages or profiles and Facebook is adding more every day. It’s worth noting that Facebook (much like Twitter) doesn’t take requests for verification.

It is interesting to see Facebook adopt a widely used feature from Twitter. This is fairly uncommon.

You can see further information in the Facebook Help Centre.
