Facebook Lets Same Sex Couples Get Married, Introduces new Icon

on July 4, 2012 | Facebook | Comments (0)

Facebook has let same sex couples get married on Facebook for a little while now.

However yesterday they made an update to the site where if 2 men get married the marriage icon shown is 2 men next to eachother. If 2 women get married then it shows 2 women next to eachother.

Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes married his long time partner, Sean Eldridge on the weekend.

You can see in their picture that Facebook has updated the icon for same sex couples.

Whilst this is a simple change – I think in the years to come, Facebook and the community around us will put further pressure on Western governments to reconsider same sex marriage where not the case.

I think we will also see Facebook support more causes like they have done with the Organ Donor option and now this update.
