Google Wave, retirement

Google has admitted in a blog post that the Google Wave product never gathered enough users and there is now the possibility that the product will be pulled.

Google has said they will continue supporting the product for the rest of the year and the code will be open source so other developers can use it on their projects if they like.

This is one of many several attempts by Google in the social arena that has not worked.

Regardless its good that they will concentrate their efforts on more practical products.

As a Google wave user myself, it was not exactly ‘easy’ to pick up, however after some persistence it was not unmanageable.

Google Wave did have alot of hype during launch, however that quickly died down and nothing much has been said of the product post launch.

Will be interesting to see if the rumors about ‘Google Me’ come to fruition anytime soon. More to come..
