How to Build a High Quality Blog Readership

Are you blogging for business? or personal reasons?
Building a high quality readership is important whatever the case – you want your readers to be a valuable asset to your website.
In fact many blogs have trouble sustaining a long term reader - so today we will discuss some tips to help build a high quality blog readership and following.
1. Target a specific niche
There is no point building a blog that covers general news all around the world – this is done! and you won’t be competitive unless you have millions and millions of dollars in your marketing budget to promote the site.
What area of work are you in, and what location do you service? Is there anyone else blogging in this space? Be niche, and you will attract a niche audience.
2. Guest Blog & offer Guest Blogging
If you want to increase your brand exposure in your particular niche, see if you can guest blog on similar websites whom have a decent size readership. This will get your content in front of new people you may not have been able to reach, and also highly relevant links back to your site which is very valuable from a SEO perspective.
In addition to this, encourage guest bloggers to write articles on your site. This will give your current readership a different writing style and opinion on a similar topic that you have probably discussed. That guest blogger is also likely to share the article on their social media accounts which will again attract new readers through to your site.
Both guest blogging approaches can be a win-win situation. I invite guest blogging here if you are interested: https://www.socialmedianews.com.au/guest-blogging/
3. Maintain consistency
With your blogging you need to building in consistency and regular blog updates into your daily schedule. If your readers are used to you posting everyday, you can expect them to be a often and repeat visitor.
For this site, I make sure every business day that at least some new article is posted (minimum!). Generally I will make sure at least 2 blogs are published every business day and sometimes go up to 5. This consistency brings back readers time and time again.
4. Maintain Relevancy
If some breaking news comes out in your niche – make sure you cover it in a timely fashion. Sometimes if you are the first site to blog about a given topic you will remain at the top of Google for that piece of news, which can bring in a lot of traffic. This has certainly happened to me a few times.
5. Make Subscribing Easy
You want your readers to be able to connect with you on their platform of choice. This means sometimes off your website or RSS feed. Make sure you have spread your content across all social networks your users are likely to use, and also make sure you offer daily email updates (if you have the content there).
In addition to this, have a subscribe page with multiple options for your readers, my subscribe page is here: https://www.socialmedianews.com.au/subscribe/
6. Social Media
This last point may be obviously but when using social media websites, don’t just use them as content distribution channels – make sure you are actively engaging with your industry peers. Add a comment to conversations, provide some free tips and expertise, or a post a link back to your site to answer someones question.
We hope this helps you attract some more high quality readers to your website. Do you have any tips for us? Please let us know in the comments section below.
