Linked Privacy Blunder with Social Advertising?

It seems LinkedIn has rolled out a new feature on the site whereby it can use your name and photo in their Social Advertising products.

I had no idea about this until I saw people mentioning the change in their LinkedIn profile streams. Whilst many members may not mind about the change and their personal data being used, obviously there are some people out there who don’t want this – and LinkedIn didn’t inform us of the change.

However our continued use of the site means we accept their Terms and Conditions, which is no doubt ever changing.

To turn this feature off so your name and Photo are not using in Social Advertising on LinkedIn – Login to your account and follow these steps:

1. Click on the Settings button underneath your name in the Top Right.

Linkedin Settings

2. Click on the Account Tab in the lower left-hand side of the page.

Account Settings
3. Click the Manage Social Advertising link that now displays

manage social ads

4. You are then able to opt out of this feature if desired.

Whilst we have embraced the world of social media, and LinkedIn has been around for a long time now, our privacy is still of uttermost importance and we should all keep up-to-date with any changes as they are happening.
