on September 19, 2011 | Linux | Comments (0)

On Saturday 17th of September was the 20th Birthday for Linux kernel, where version 0.01 was released.

You may not be aware but a huge amount of websites today run on a Linux operating system. In September 1991 the first Linux kernel was released to the public by Linus Torvalds.

The original kernel had about 10,000 lines of code, whereas the version today has over 13 million.

What are some common devices that run on Linux?

– Android mobile phones
– Latest Sony Bravia TVs
– Tom Tom GPS units
– Amazon Kindle

This just goes to show Linux is still a widely used computer system many devices around the world run on.

If you know of any particularly cool products or gadgets that run on Linux, let us know in the comments below.

Happy Birthday Linux!
