Pope’s Twitter Account Goes Live on 12/12/12

Continuing on his quest to connect with a younger, more tech savvy audience, the Pope has taken the step into the online world of social networking with the launch of his personal twitter account on 12/12/12.

Only hours old, @pontifex has only a few newly written tweets, but over 750, 000 followers and counting.

And what were the first words that made his account official?

“Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.”

With over 1.2 billion followers in real life, it is expected his twitter account will become the most popular account on the site.

In a bid to combat any anticipated hacks, the Vatican will have only one computer set up with the twitter account.
