Just in time for your Christmas and Summer holiday celebrations, Snapchat have made a number of updates to their application, bringing several pieces of new functionality to users.

The latest update 6.1.0 includes:

  1. Smart Filters – Add data overlays to your Snaps – Speed, Time and Temperature.
  2. Visual Filters
  3. Replay
  4. Special Text
  5. Front-Facing Flash
  6. Up to 7 Best Friends

Here are how the new filters look:

And here are the new Speed, Time and Temperature overlays and the new Helvetica font:

I’ll admit some of the new functionality is a little surprising. Snapchat even prompts users not to try taking photos with the speed overlay whilst driving.. Certainly good and sound legal advice.

To enable these new features, open the Snapchat app then Settings > Additional Services > Manage. You will get the following screen where you can enable the new functions:

What is most surprising is the new replay function which lets you re-view your most recent photo or video in your stream. You can only do this once per day.

This sort of goes against what Snapchat origionally stood for, but it doesn’t seem to have caused any users complaints so far.

I’m still waiting till we start seeing ‘Sponsored Snaps’ or Sponsored Snapchat posts. They are bound to come sooner or later. Will advertisers want to tap into this sexting crazed, selfie loving, youngster audience?
