According to recent Comscore data, Social Media accounts for the largest amount of time we are spending online.
Here is the breakdown of the figures:

Portals – 17.3%
Entertainment – 13.8%
Instant Messengers – 7.1%
Email – 5.1%

Online Reach
Portals reach 96.1% of the total Australian online population
Entertainment – 94.3%
Search/Navigation – 91.8%
Social Media/ Networking websites – 90%
Community sites – 85.1%
By my reports, Facebook is still growing therefore I estimate online reach for social media sites will continue to rise and so will the amount of time we spend on these sites.
