Social Media SEO

So what is the best way to Search Engine Optimise your Social Media Profiles?

Lets look at the 3 most prominent social networks we are using for Business:

1. Facebook (pages)
2. Twitter
3. LinkedIn

Facebook

For the purpose of this exercise, we will look at optimising your Facebook Fanpage.

When people search Facebook, instead of just looking for ‘people’ they are able to search on ‘everything’, which includes Facebook pages, groups etc.

Consider the following when optimising your Fanpage:

– Make sure the info tab of your page is keyword optimised for your target market.
– Link to other places on Facebook as these links will be followed (by FB).
– When adding photos to your Wall, make sure you include some descriptive text about the photo.
– When you are writing updates on your wall, make sure these are keyword rich as well.
– Add your company website Link in the ‘about us’ section.

Also note there are many Facebook Directory websites out there where you can Submit your Fanpage for inclusion.

This is especially good in getting more people viewing your page and also incoming links which can boost the Google Page Rank of your FB Fanpage.

LinkedIn

When using LinkedIn take note that your Name, Profile Headline, Location, and the Industry you work in is inserted into the Meta Description tag.

This is how people often find your LinkedIn profile when they run a Google or Bing search looking for you.

When selecting your LinkedIn profile URL you can either go for your name (or closest that is available), or you could select a keyword rich URL for your particular niche. This is the route I went down and my LinkedIn profile URL is: http://au.linkedin.com/in/socialmedianews (feel free to add me).

Twitter

Looking at Twitter – your username becomes the Page Title of your profile page. Therefore selecting a keyword rich username can also boost your profile ranking.

As with LinkedIn, your actual name is also used in the pagetitle tag.

Similar to Facebook, there are many (probably more) Twitter Directories where you can post your profile links. This is good in gaining new followers and also creating incoming links to your profile, thus increasing it’s Google Page Rank and Search Engine Visibility.

We hope this helps SEO your Social Media Profiles, and we’ll try bring you some more tips soon!
