Wikipedia now 10 years old!

Wikipedia is now 10 years old.

The site was founded in January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.

The site operates as a not for profit charitable organisation – although with such huge traffic and unique visitors the site could have sold ad space on the site – however decided against this approach.

The site employs about 50 full time staff and has around 35,000 English language contributors that post/edit and update articles.

The site is often criticised for inaccurate facts on some articles, however it is worth pointing out the vast majority of articles are very accurate.

Wikipedia currently has an Alexa rank of 8 and if the company was valued it would be a figure in the Billions of dollars.
