WordPress user statistics

Now that WordPress 3.0 is out lets look back at how WordPress has grown over the years and attracted new users.

There are now about 11.4 million WordPress.com blogs created. These blogs are hosted for free by WordPress and the URL layout is something like www.yourname.wordpress.com

These 11.4 million blogs have now posted more than 200,000,000 posts and receiving about 260 million visits per month.

WordPress.org allows users to install WordPress on their own domain, and there about now about 13.8 million of these blogs.

The blogging game is really dominated by 2 main players:
– one being WordPress
– and the other Google’s blogspot (which Google purchased some time ago)

In terms of functionality WordPress really does take the prize hands down.
