Yahoo has just confirmed that their service has suffered a major hack – back in 2014, however now they have decided to inform users.
Yahoo have gone on to say their believe this is a state-sponsored hack, and if found to be true can have real implications among international diplomatic relations.
According to Yahoo, the stolen information includes - includes names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords (the vast majority with bcrypt) and, in some cases, encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers.
Users of Flickr and Tumblr which are Yahoo owned products should also be wary as many of the services and logins are linked.
This is unfortunate for Yahoo as over the last several years their service has struggled to keep up with new age technology companies.
Regardless they still attract a large audience of almost 1 billion monthly active users.
If you have a Yahoo Mail account it is highly recommended you change your password and check your security options.
