Australian Population on Facebook
According to the ABS Population Clock – there are approximately 24,250,000 Australian citizens.
Of this number, there are 15,000,000 monthly active users on Facebook.
Therefore approximately 60% of the total Australian population is an active monthly user on Facebook.
Considering people aged under 13 years are technically prohibited from signing up, and people over the age of 80 generally don’t frequent social media sites like younger demographic groups – this goes to show Facebook has huge penetration into the Australian market.
Key Points to Note:
- 61% of the total Australian population is an active monthly user on Facebook.
- YouTube is seeing consistent growth almost every month as it nears Facebook volume. However the type of the engagement on the site is totally different to that of Facebook.
- WhatsApp has increased it’s Australian user base by 30% since early 2015. This means WhatsApp has more monthly users in Australia than Twitter.
- Twitter has been stagnant in user growth over the past 2 years.
- On a personal note I have deleted my Foursquare and Swarm accounts. There was such low usage in Australia and after all this time I do have some privacy concerns about sharing my location unnecessarily.
- Blogging used to be a very common activity for many internet users, our research is suggesting that this is now quietening down a little as people don’t create as many new blogs as previously done.
- Google Plus in Australia has approx 60,000 users who actively use the service every month and this hasn’t grown for sometime.
