Apple App Store hits 500,000 Applications

There are several reports floating around that the Apple iOS App Store has now approved over 500,000 Applications for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.

This is a great milestone by Apple but I am going to come forward and say the quality of applications does seem to be degrading. Now when sifting through the App Store you do come across badly presented applications that create a cheap overall feel, some looking like computer software and graphics from the 80s.

Keys stats include:

– 37% of apps are free
– 15% of all apps are games
– 14% are books

It’s also worth noting that Google’s Android Market is nearing 300,000 Applications themselves.

The Windows Marketplace for Apps is also growing but only in the 10s of thousands at the moment.

Another thing I don’t like is how the iTunes store on the iPad is ‘restrictive’ in ways when looking to browse free apps.

Found and cool apps lately? Do let us know.
