Foursquare Removes Check-ins, Directs Users To New Swarm App

on July 28, 2014 | Foursquare | Comments (0)

Lately there has been a lot of changes going on at Foursquare, as we see the company pivot into a new direction with their geo-location services and check-in features.

Users will no longer be able to ‘check-in’ on the Foursquare app, they are instead directed to download the new app called Swarm which offers similar functionality in a bright new orange design. The app even has a feature whereby you can constantly transmit your approximate location to your friends/contacts.

The Foursquare app itself is becoming more of a personalised local search/discovery engine that recommends places to go – based on your previous Foursquare check-ins, new Swarm check-ins and data from Foursquare’s 50 million users.

Although – there has been a bit of feedback where users are missing the old Foursquare app.

With all these changes Foursquare has decided to change their logo:

Foursquare usage in Australia is minimal, but I have noticed there is still some significant usage in the major metropolitan cities Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth etc.

They are really mixing things up and only time will tell how this truly goes down with their audience, particularly in the United States and Europe where a majority of the 50 million Foursquare/Swarm users resides.
