Global Switch Data Centre Power Outage 14/7

The Global Switch Data Centre in Pyrmont, Sydney is probably the best data centre in Australia in terms of specification, size and performance. I actually host this site in the Global Switch Data Centre + a many others. I have always been impressed by their professional attitude, tight security and quick acting remote hands if needed.
However yesterday (June 14) a contractor working in the data centre accidentally triggered the fire system which shut down some UPS (uninterruptible power supply) units, which impacted Level 2 of the data centre.
This meant any servers that only had one power supply connected may have went down for a short period of time.
This just goes to show, even the best systems and providers can experience ‘unlucky’ issues like this – and in a large scale environment make sure you have adequate backups in place whether that be redundant power supplies or redundant network feeds.
