Instagram Overtakes Twitter, Reaches 300 Million Monthly Users

Instagram have announced on their blog that the service now has 300 million monthly users. They go on to say that now 70 million photos and video are posted to the social network every day.

In contact, Twitter reached 284 million monthly users which was announced at their last earnings call in October. I expect the gap between Instagram’s user numbers to widen as their growth outstrips Twitter’s.

Also taking a leaf out of Twitter’s book – Instagram will be adding verified badge to brand, public figures and large company accounts – like what is already being done on Twitter and Facebook.

Instagram have also announced they are doing a spam clean up – deleting fake and spam accounts.

It’s fair to say that when Twitter lost out on acquiring Instagram over Facebook – it was probably one of their most significant strategic mistakes.
