In late November last year, Hamilton Island created an interesting social media campaign by launching a photo competition - with the help from a number of celebrity users, ambassadors and competition winners who all focused around the Instagram app, accompanied by postings across Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Tumblr and Pinterest.

Also the ever entertaining, Pilgramers were along for the ride – taking some great photos and creating plenty of excitement along the journey.

The campaign took place over the weekend of 23 – 25 November, 2012. Here are the results released by Hamilton Island:

  • Of the ambassadors on the island Instameet – they reached over 815,000 of their Instagram followers alone.
  • The photos and updates reached over 8 million people across Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest and Google Plus.
  • 50 photos by the ambassadors hit Instagram’s popular page.
  • The Instameet photos received over 800,000 ‘likes’, and 17,500 comments.

The team at Hamilton Island have put together this great video showing the whole experience and reeling off some more stats.

After seeing all this take place I actually took a holiday up to Hamilton Island in January and have to say it was one of the nicest holidays I’ve been on. Definitely worth checking out this aussie paradise.
