Twitter bug lets you control your followers

The is a bug in the Twitter system that lets users decide who is following them.

It has been reported that writing ‘(tweet) accept (username)” then the (username) starts following you immediately.

This has been confirmed by many Twitter account now following an increase number of users who have not been manually followed.

Many people are also noticing that their follower/following lists have been reset to 0.

Twitter has tweeted the following:

Follow count display is set to 0 and follow/unfollow is temporarily offline while we fix a bug.less than a minute ago via web

And now Twitter have announced that the bug has been remedied and they are working on changes to roll back all the abuse of this error.
