Yahoo to release Instant Search Feature

Yahoo is looking to rollout a new Instant Search Feature similar to Google Instant Search – called Yahoo Search Direct.

Search Direct will show you the latest trending topics on the internet, and also pre-fill the search form to predict and displaying common search queries.

The product is currently in Beta and can be accessed here: http://search.yahoo.com/

Here is the video from Yahoo explaining this new product:

We will keep you updated with how this product goes and when rolled out to country specific Yahoo sites.

  • Props to Yahoo for releasing a new feature, but I did some tests on Australian-relevant terms and some more general searches, and came up with this assessment… it’s mostly useless.

I can only see this feature becoming frustrating to users. It's fancy, but it doesn't add any value.

I hate to leave a link in the comments (admin remove if necessary) but I feel it’s relevant to the debate: http://damionbrown.com/2011/03/yahoo-launches-sea

  • Thanks for the comment Damion,

We need Yahoo to remain competitive in search, so I hope the product is widely accepted and more innovations continue.
