Timeline rolls out to Facebook Pages
It’s what many of us have been waiting for – Facebook Pages can now get the Timeline profile layout, similar to user profiles.
This will allow companies to bring new creativity to their pages and also down the road will allow for even better app integration.
Another key feature that has been released in this update is Facebook Page Messaging – allowing users to send a private message to a Facebook page.
Want to get in early and get the new design? Here are the steps to activate Timeline for your pages.
1. Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/status
2. Facebook will now show a list of the pages you administer. Click the Turn on Preview button to enable Timeline on that page.
3. You can now tweak your page and upload a cover photo.
Cover photos are in the dimension of 851 x 315px.
4. You can click the Publish Now button to immediately move your page over to the timeline layout. Otherwise on March 31, 2012 Facebook will automatically switch it over for you.
Another very important aspect of this change is Facebook users will now be able to send a Message to the Facebook page. This is a private conversation only between the user and the page, great for customer service, sales enquiries etc.
I have enabled the Timeline profile layout on our Facebook page. You can see the design here: http://www.facebook.com/socialmedianewsaustralia
We will keep you updated with more details as they unfold.
